Garden Fare

It is spring break here at Davis. I decided to work through spring break so I could get holiday time for Mexico. The campus has been quiet, which is nice. After too long, though, the quiet can get boring. Spring break is always a nice break from the buzz for me when I stay in Davis. Because it is short enough that the quiet doesn't get boring.

Because the students are gone, the dining rooms are closed. I depend on the dining rooms for lunch every day.

I almost forget what it is like to pack a lunch. On Monday, my lunch fare was slim and plain. Two pieces of bread and half an avocado will not cut it, that is for sure. I decided to take my slim fare out to my garden plot (two blocks away from my office, lucky me) and enjoy the beautiful spring air and sunshine, hang out with my squirrel friend (yes, the one who eats all my baby plants...) and weed a bit.

Hello there, pretty! I am going to eat you!

My lettuce and strawberry bed

I think I should get props for the wheat bread in my lunch for Monday. I made it myself - my first time using a bread maker (thanks Uncle Steve and Aunt Pam!) I decided to spruce up my avocado and wheat bread sandwich with some calendula flower and lettuce from my garden.

It was a great lunch.

Again - half an avocado, two slices of whole wheat bread, some calendula petals, and several pieces of lettuce did not cut it. So I resorted to junk food. After I got back to the office, I ripped into the sample of Sun Chips I was given - the bag is now 100% compostable. Thank goodness for Sun Chips.
