A Very Public Haircut, and other such excitements!

A very public hair cut.

Nico needed a haircut, bad. Don't get me wrong, I love Nico's long flowing locks. But there is something super attractive about a nice clean-cut look as well. And working at the capitol means that long flowing locks aren't exactly smiled upon. ;)

So, he finally enrolled our dear friend, Megan, a fellow N Street cohousing member to trim his trailing tresses.

What ensued was a very public hair cut.

We had a large potluck last night in the community, including a celebration of Megan's partner's (Dan's) birthday. Dan isn't actually in Davis right now. She actually video skyped him in so he can partake in the celebrations including eating dinner, lighting of the candles, singing celebratory birthday songs and the cake cutting (SO CUTE!). But I digress.

Throughout the potluck, Nico had his locks severed. In phases, of course. So at certain points during the evening he was walking around with a mullet. Then a mo-hawk. Then a faux-hawk. Then, finally, a nicely trimmed head of hair.

Photos were a must. Nico, with a mo-hawk! I begged him to keep it, but alas, he decided even one day at the office with a mo-hawk might not be the best idea.

My very dashing, Nico!

Summer Colds and Dani's Solution.

I tend to get sick around this time in the summer. I haven't quite yet figured out why. It may be allergies. It may be a cold. But, never fail, I always come down with something during the months of August/September when my head becomes foggy with grey and yellow phlegm, my voice turns into a toad croak, and my head pounds with pressure.

I stayed home, ill, today after waking up and not being able to talk nevertheless breath comfortably.

Dani's remedy for congestion?

Netti Pot
This little baby hurts like Hell but feels SO GOOD after you do it. Basically, you run warm saline solution through your nostrils. It kinds feels a little bit like drowning, but don't worry, you wont. It goes in one end and out the other with lots of 'debris' included. Yummy!

Lots of WATER
Self explanatory. Helps flush your system.

Vitamin C
In food form, of course. Peppers are a great source of V. C. Eat lots of red, yellow and green peppers. Higher in V. C. than our fave citrus pals.

Sleep
I slept a total of 12 hours today. I still feel pretty shitty, but hopefully tomorrow I can hit the ground running (and breathing!)

Umcka
This one is new, and actually I can't say that it works, yet. I just tried it today after being sad about my sinuses not clearing up with my netti and decongestant pills routine. So many of my friends rely on this, so I'm giving it a try. News soon if it works!

Tea
Of any kind, typically an herbal tea. This just kinda loosens up my sinus pressure.

ACV Short for apple cider vinegar. A quick-fix for clearing up your sinuses. Take a shot's worth of this lovely vinegar and you are good as gold (at least for about 15-30 minutes). Some of my friends carry around watered down ACV with them to school/work when they are cold and sip it throughout the day. ACV doesn't taste very good, btw, but it does work.

With all of these 'natural' remedies, I tend to feel better within a week. This is better than taking some pill that a doctor prescribed me. If thinks don't clear up within 2 weeks, then the DR is my last resort. We will see how this one plays out... =)

End for BB, Beginning for Droid.

My lovely pink Blackberry Curve decided to die. This one didn't last as long as my first one (which had a fatal accident when I biked to work in the rain one day... drowning must not feel very good for a phone). I got my 'new' Blackberry in February and it is now broken. It lasted 6 months. Not so good, technology... I'm a bit disappointed in you.

Good news. I've had my lovely pink berry contract for over 2 years, I guess, because I had the opportunity to upgrade for FREE to a new phone. I found this out Monday night at 11pm when I called Verizon to file a claim on my BB.

I went for a Droid. It still cost me (nothing is free these days) $200, but this is more than half the retail price ($550) for a new one.

My Droid arrive today. Overnight delivery, so I was only without a fully functioning phone for about 12 day hours. My Droid is pretty sexy! I'm not going to lie! Much better than my pink berry, and much lighter too.

BB Curve vs Droid Incredible
Notice the missing track ball in my old BB
epic tech fail

I've only had it for 4 hours, but I'm already pretty smitten. Yay, Droid Incredible. It blows Nico's original Droid phone out of the water (ha ha!). ;)

I'll have to think of a name for it. Keep in mind my past tradition for naming things I own that I use regularly:
  • Felipe Alejandro - my blue Miyata road bike
  • Antonio Roberto - my green Schwinn road bike
  • BebBe - my Pink iPod Nano
  • Enrique - my black Toshiba notebook
  • Beems - my grandma's black 1990 BMW that I now drive
  • ??? - my new Droid Incredible
Any suggestions, friend and family? I will give the person who comes up with the most creative (and fitting) name a jar of apricot preserves that I canned this summer! Lucky you if you haven't received this already!
